The Tianjin Foreign Studies University CSC Scholarship 2027-2028 is a fully funded Chinese Government Scholarship for international students who want to study a Master’s or PhD in China. The award covers tuition, on-campus accommodation, a monthly living allowance and comprehensive medical insurance.
Tianjin Foreign Studies University (TFSU) is a separate institution from Tianjin University. Use the TFSU name, portal and agency number throughout your application — mixing the two universities up is one of the easiest mistakes on this route.

Who can apply
- Non-Chinese citizenship, a valid passport, and good physical and mental health.
- Master’s applicants: a Bachelor’s degree and under 35 years old.
- PhD applicants: a Master’s degree and under 40 years old.
- Meet TFSU’s academic admission requirements and comply with university regulations.
- You cannot hold another scholarship at the same time as this CSC award.
Language requirements
- Chinese-taught Master’s: HSK Level 5, at least 180 points.
- Chinese-taught PhD: HSK Level 6, at least 180 points.
- English-taught study: IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 80, or equivalent evidence accepted by the school.
- The materials checklist also names Duolingo 110 and school-recognized English proficiency certification.
Applicants who completed a Chinese-taught degree at a Chinese university are exempt from submitting HSK results when they provide the institution’s proof of completion. For any other certificate, confirm with the relevant school that it accepts your evidence — an English-medium degree is not automatically a universal exemption.
Degree programs
Check your exact degree and major in Attachment 1 of the official CSC call before applying. A major appearing in the general admissions catalog is not proof that it is funded under this scholarship.
Examples from the general Master’s catalog include International Business (English, two years), English Language Literature (English, three years) and Discipline Teaching (English, three years). Chinese-taught examples include International Chinese Language Education, translation, diplomacy, politics, communication and education. The general doctoral catalog lists Foreign Language and Literature, with translation-related research directions in English, Japanese and Russian.
Documents you need
- Passport valid beyond 31 October 2028.
- Notarized highest qualification and complete academic transcripts.
- Language certificate and two signed academic recommendations.
- TFSU study-plan template, written in Chinese or English, at least 1,000 words. For PhD applicants, the prospective Chinese supervisor must sign the study plan.
- Completed physical examination form and recent non-criminal record certificate.
- Relevant publications, research activities and other supporting achievements, where applicable.
- For applicable applicants already in China: visa evidence and the current institution’s student-performance record.
Submit clear PDF scans through the specified online systems. Documents in other languages need the original scan and a notarized Chinese or English translation. Medical results and police clearance have six-month timing rules in the call — arrange them so they stay valid when you submit. Originals are required for verification at registration. Postal applications are not accepted.
How to apply for the TFSU CSC Scholarship
- Read the official scholarship call and its attachments, then confirm your eligible degree and major.
- Register on the TFSU application platform (tfsu.at0086.cn) and upload the required documents before the scholarship cutoff.
- Complete the university’s written tests or interviews if invited after document review.

Pre-admission is an intermediate decision, not a guarantee of funding. University assessment, nomination and CSC expert review are separate stages.
TFSU states it has not authorized individuals or agencies to recruit students for this CSC scholarship. Send application questions directly to the International Admission Office listed in the official notice.
Deadline
The university scholarship application cutoff is 21 February 2027. The general 2027 Master’s and doctoral admission guides show 30 June 2027 — that later date is not the February scholarship cutoff. Do not substitute it.
Successful applicants receive their admission notice and JW201 form through the CSC information system. Read the final offer carefully before arranging registration or travel.
Frequently asked questions
Is TFSU the same as Tianjin University?
No. Tianjin Foreign Studies University is a separate institution. Use TFSU’s official portal and Type B institution code 10068 consistently throughout the application.
Can I apply without IELTS?
TFSU accepts several forms of English evidence, including the alternatives named in its materials checklist. Confirm that your school accepts your own certificate — this is not a blanket language exemption.
Is every TFSU major covered by this scholarship?
No. Check your exact degree and major in Attachment 1 of the scholarship call before applying.
Which deadline applies to this CSC route?
The university scholarship application cutoff is 21 February 2027. The later June date in general graduate admission guides should not be substituted for the CSC cutoff.
Does pre-admission guarantee the scholarship?
No. TFSU assesses and recommends candidates, then CSC organizes expert review. Keep your application records and wait for the final scholarship and admission decision.
